Jim Duggan Speaks On Origins of 'Hacksaw' Nickname, Knocking Out Andre The Giant

WWE Hall of Famer 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan has said he received his famous nickname from his younger days playing football.

In an interview with New Zealand's 'SunLive', Duggan said how some fans were confused by the name.

He said: "People are like, ‘You’re Hacksaw Duggan and you carry a 2×4.’ I’m like, ‘It’s wrestling, it doesn’t have to make sense.'”

The inaugural Royal Rumble winner also spoke on his career, especially when he knocked out the former WWF champion in Madison Square Garden, 30 years ago.

"The television show went off the air and I was standing over Andre covered in blood with my 2×4. So that moved me up to a main-event man, instead of a mid-card guy," Duggan said.

"From then [on] I worked with Andre 54 nights straight, so I got to know him pretty well, and he could be an irritable giant sometimes too.”

Check out Duggan taking it to the eighth wonder of the world below.
