With the G1 Climax now in the books, NJPW is quickly turning its attention to the next major events on the calendar, with several matches now confirmed for Destruction in Kobe.
Freshly crowned G1 Climax winner Ryohei Oiwa has already secured his IWGP Heavyweight Championship opportunity for King of Pro Wrestling 2026 in October. As things stand, Oiwa is scheduled to challenge current champion Yota Tsuji, although the title picture could look very different by then.
Tsuji will first have to make it through Hirooki Goto when the two meet for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Destruction in Kobe on Sunday, September 27.
Goto earned his opportunity after defeating Tsuji during block competition in this year's G1. Should the veteran repeat that result in Kobe, he would begin his second reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion after previously holding the championship for four months in 2025.
It could be an eventful period for Goto outside the ring as well. The NJPW veteran is set to portray E. Honda in the upcoming "Street Fighter" movie, which is scheduled for release in October.
Two additional championship matches have been added to the Kobe lineup. IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Gabe Kidd will put his title on the line against his former stablemate Drilla Moloney.
Konosuke Takeshita will also defend the NJPW World Television Championship against Shun Skywalker, who recently arrived in NJPW following his departure from Dragon Gate.
Elsewhere, Jeff Cobb's return has immediately placed him into a heated singles encounter with United Empire leader Callum Newman.
Five matches have currently been announced, with NJPW expected to expand the card ahead of the event. Destruction in Kobe will stream live through NJPW World with English commentary available.
