Nixon Newell has revisited the controversy surrounding her and Miranda Alize's decision to leave an AEW Collision taping before their scheduled match, claiming much of the story that circulated online was based on assumptions rather than what actually happened.

Newell, formerly known as Tegan Nox in WWE, and Alize were booked to compete on the November 8, 2025 edition of AEW Collision. However, the pair departed before the planned match took place, leading to considerable speculation about what had happened behind the scenes.

Speaking in a new interview with CryptoCasinos.com, Newell said the reaction became much bigger than she expected, particularly because she believes reports did not accurately reflect the conversations she and Alize had with AEW officials.

CC: “Now the dust has settled on the fallout of your stint at AEW, do you look back on that and think how mad the outcry on all that was?”

Nixon: “Oh yeah. What was crazy about it was the dirt sheets had no actual idea what was happening, so they were just assuming, and that’s what got all the traction, the assumptions, not the true story. And then random people who also didn’t know what happened, as they weren’t involved in any of the conversations with us and the higher-ups, interjecting and creating this whole scenario that didn’t happen.”

Newell explained that, from her perspective, there was no major falling out with AEW management. She claimed both sides understood each other's position and that she and Alize were even told they would be welcome back.

CC: “That must be so surreal to watch.”

Nixon: “It was wild, it blew up over a lie. We had an understanding with the higher-ups. We had an open invite back. It was like, ‘Cool, we understand. Thank you so much. We’d love to have you guys back, but that’s fine. We respect you coming to us and not kicking up a fuss.’ But it was people with no knowledge of the situation interjecting and blowing it up into this entire lie. Like saying I’d had [argued with] people who I’ve never spoken to before or haven’t even met. I knew it was going to blow up when someone posted, ‘Nixon Newell pounds beer after walking out of AEW.’ I’m like, I am British. It was a singular Michelob Ultra. How is that pounding a beer?”

Newell also spoke about the personal criticism she has received from sections of the wrestling fanbase, saying she has struggled to understand why some people appear to hold such strong feelings toward her.

CC: “It’s just so crazy. I just don’t understand why that would be the case?”

Nixon: “I don’t know either. There are certain people online who genuinely despise me for no reason other than I got hurt in the 2017 WWE Mae Young Classic. Like, I try and be a good person, I’m polite. But there’s a handful of people who absolutely despise me, and it just blows my mind. I’d love to know why.”

According to Newell, the backlash went far beyond criticism of her professional decision. She revealed that she received death threats for months following the incident.

CC: “I think there’s a sort of weird thing in a lot of content creation where things just escalate beyond anyone’s control. It’s strange what gets picked up on.”

Nixon: “Yeah. For a long time, I want to say four months, almost, I had death threats every day.”

Newell then offered further context regarding why she and Alize chose not to go ahead with the match. She said they had been expecting at least six minutes and an opportunity to do something meaningful, while stressing that losing the match was never the issue.

CC: “For not working a tag match on Collision?”

Nixon: “Yeah, it was crazy. We weren’t asking for a fifteen-minute time-limit extravaganza. We were promised at least six minutes and something of worth and didn’t get it. We knew going in we were losing, that’s not a problem. Most of my career is losing. We understood their stance, they understood ours. It’s a business. But then for some wrestling fans to be like, ‘Kill yourself, you walked out on AEW.’”
