WWE Confirms First Two Championship Matches For NXT Heatwave

WWE Confirms First Two Championship Matches For NXT Heatwave

WWE NXT Heatwave has its first two matches locked in following Tuesday night’s episode, with both contests involving the women’s championship picture.

Kelani Jordan will receive the opportunity she has been demanding when she challenges Kendal Grey for the NXT Women’s Championship at Heatwave on August 30.

The match came together after Kali Armstrong appeared in the ring to make her own case for a championship opportunity. Jordan interrupted and argued that she should be the one next in line for a title match.

Grey then made her way out while continuing to show the effects of the ear injury she suffered during last week’s NXT Underground match. The champion revealed that she had already spoken with NXT General Manager Robert Stone about the situation.

According to Grey, she had grown tired of Jordan repeatedly complaining about being overlooked and was prepared to give her the opportunity she wanted. Grey offered to defend the championship on a date of Jordan’s choosing, with the former TNA Knockouts Champion wasting little time in selecting Heatwave.

Another major women’s match was also added to the August 30 event, with two championships set to be unified.

Zaria successfully defended the NXT Women’s North American Championship against Wren Sinclair on Tuesday, although the finish was influenced by outside chaos. A brawl involving Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox created a distraction that allowed Zaria to capitalize and score the pinfall victory over Sinclair.

Despite Robert Stone initially appearing reluctant to sanction another meeting between the pair, Sinclair raised the stakes by proposing a unification bout. Stone ultimately agreed, setting up a match that will see the Women’s Speed Championship and Women’s North American Championship combined at Heatwave.

Elsewhere, the identity of Tony D’Angelo’s NXT Championship challenger remains unresolved.

Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana were scheduled to battle in the main event to determine who would challenge D’Angelo at Heatwave. That plan was thrown into chaos when Zilla Fatu made his NXT debut and attacked both competitors, resulting in the match being thrown out.

Fatu’s arrival means D’Angelo is currently without a confirmed opponent for August 30.

WWE NXT Heatwave Card For August 30

  • NXT Women’s Championship: Kendal Grey (c) vs. Kelani Jordan
  • Women’s Speed Championship and NXT Women’s North American Championship Unification Match: Zaria vs. Wren Sinclair

With two championship matches now official and Tony D’Angelo’s challenger still to be determined, what do you think of the early NXT Heatwave card? Leave a comment in our new WNS comment section and let us know your predictions.
