Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to add another major accolade to his career, with the WWE icon and Hollywood star preparing to officially become a Disney Legend.
Johnson is part of the Disney Legends class of 2026 and will receive the company’s highest honor during D23 this weekend. The ceremony will also be available for fans to watch from home, with Disney+ streaming the event beginning at 6 PM PT on August 16.
Disney originally announced Johnson as part of this year’s class in March, recognizing his hugely successful career in entertainment and his long-running relationship with the company.
Johnson has become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars since transitioning from professional wrestling, but his connection with Disney is particularly notable through the Moana franchise.
The former WWE Champion provided the voice of Maui in the original animated Moana before returning to the role for Moana 2. He has also reprised the character for Disney’s live-action adaptation.
Disney highlighted Johnson’s remarkable journey when announcing his selection, including the well-known story of him once having just seven dollars to his name. After establishing himself as one of professional wrestling’s biggest attractions, Johnson successfully crossed over into Hollywood and eventually became one of the film industry's leading stars.
His movies have collectively generated more than $15 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Disney.
Johnson's career began on the big screen with The Mummy Returns, where he portrayed the Scorpion King. The performance led to his first major starring role in the 2002 spin-off The Scorpion King and opened the door to a lengthy run as a Hollywood leading man.
More recently, Johnson underwent a dramatic transformation to portray former UFC fighter and wrestler Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. The role required the use of more than 20 prosthetics and earned Johnson a Golden Globe nomination.
His upcoming projects will see him reunite with The Smashing Machine director Benny Safdie for Lizard Music, in which Johnson is set to portray an eccentric man known as Chicken Man. He is also attached to a Martin Scorsese project alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt.
Johnson will now celebrate another milestone when he officially joins the Disney Legends ranks at D23 2026.
The Disney Legends ceremony will be recorded during D23 before streaming on Disney+ at 6 PM PT on Sunday, August 16.
