Bret Hart apparently made his feelings about WCW’s superstar treatment crystal clear on his very first day with the company.

Perry Saturn has recalled how WCW attempted to give Hart his own private locker room following his blockbuster arrival from WWE. Rather than embracing the special treatment, The Hitman reportedly became furious and immediately went looking for Eric Bischoff.

The story emerged as Saturn discussed the backstage environment in WCW and the privileges afforded to Hulk Hogan. Hogan having his own locker room separated him from much of the roster, according to Saturn, and WCW seemingly intended to provide Hart with a similar arrangement when he joined the promotion.

Hart had other ideas.

Saturn said he had only just met the former WWE Champion when he witnessed his reaction to discovering a private room had been reserved for him.

“I just met Bret Hart that day, and I could tell without even really knowing him he was fcking outraged. He ripped the fcking sign off the thing and goes, ‘Where can I find Eric?’”

Saturn pointed Hart in Bischoff’s direction, and whatever conversation followed appears to have settled the matter immediately. When Hart returned, Saturn checked to see how things had gone.

“He came walking by and I go, ‘You all right?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, that’ll never happen again.’”

The incident left an impression on Saturn. Hart entered WCW in late 1997 as one of wrestling’s biggest names, fresh from his controversial departure from WWE and having recently held the WWE Championship. He therefore had enough status to accept plenty of preferential treatment without anyone being particularly surprised.

Instead, Saturn’s account paints a very different picture. Hart apparently wanted to be part of the same locker room as everybody else and wasted little time making sure WCW understood that.

Saturn even conceded that he might have happily taken a private locker room had the company offered him one. Hart, however, apparently had no interest in beginning his WCW career separated from his new colleagues.
