WWE has taken steps to protect a new name that could potentially be connected to The Miz following a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

According to records filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, WWE submitted an application on August 7, 2026 to trademark the name “The Mike.”

The filing was made on an “intent to use” basis, meaning WWE is not claiming the name has already been used commercially. The application specifically covers wrestling and entertainment services, with merchandise not included in the filing.

While WWE has not officially announced what it intends to do with the name, its timing points toward the recent running joke surrounding The Miz and Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.

Misiorowski has also picked up “The Miz” as a nickname, creating an unusual crossover between WWE and Major League Baseball.

Both men appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on August 7, where the question of who truly owns the nickname became part of the conversation. McAfee attempted to solve the dispute by introducing WWE's Miz as “The Mike.”

The former WWE Champion was not particularly interested in accepting the rebrand and insisted that he remains “The Miz.”

Miz later doubled down on X, writing, “I am The Miz! The Mike will NOT become a thing!!!!”

McAfee quickly fired back with his own endorsement of the alternative name, writing, “Listen.. THE MIKE is a GREAT name.”

Now WWE has officially filed to trademark “The Mike,” suggesting the joke may have gained enough traction for the company to consider using it on television or as part of Miz's ongoing character.

Whether “The Mike” actually makes its way onto WWE programming remains to be seen, but WWE has made sure it has the name covered should the joke continue.
