AJ Styles has addressed recent speculation about his role at WWE's Performance Center, making it clear that he has not officially become a full time coach.

Reports emerged after Styles mentioned on his podcast that he would be taking over coaching duties, leading many to believe he had accepted a permanent position. However, on the latest episode of The AJ Styles Show, the WWE Hall of Famer explained that his role is only temporary.

"One of our coaches had to get knee surgery. I have now taken his place until he's back. I am not a coach per se that's down here every week. I am just filling in until he's back. That's it."

Styles' comments are consistent with what he revealed earlier this year, when he explained he had agreed to help out while a fellow coach recovered from knee surgery.

Although the arrangement is temporary, Styles admitted he has been enjoying the opportunity to work with WWE's next generation of talent. He said he has focused on making training sessions more practical and engaging rather than relying on repetitive drills.

"I'm actually having a lot of fun with it, and I'm trying to make everything that we do very, very practical. Because this is what I see going on, so we're going to do this and this right here and make sense of why you're doing it. I want to see your feetwork, feetwork or footwork, I'm not sure how you say that, but little things like that."

He also explained that he has introduced some variety into the sessions to keep trainees motivated.

"I'm changing stuff up a little bit because the more you do the same thing over and over, the less you want to come to class and work hard. It gets redundant, so I'm trying to change things up a little bit, but not take away from what they already know."

Styles did not reveal which Performance Center coach he is replacing while they recover.

Following his retirement from in ring competition earlier this year after his loss to GUNTHER at the Royal Rumble, Styles has remained heavily involved behind the scenes in WWE. Since hanging up his boots, he has worked as a scout for WWE ID, produced matches in NXT, including a recent main event, and has spent time mentoring talent at the Performance Center. NXT star Lexis King has also publicly referred to Styles as his personal coach.
