The Rock was scheduled to team with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 34, the People's Champion has confirmed.
In an interview for his latest film Rampage, the Great One said how he and Vince McMahon had discussed the idea two months ago.
He said: "I'm very proud of her and Triple H and Stephanie. We were really excited about it but we couldn’t make it work this time because I was in Shanghai. But, Who knows down the line?”
The Rock did say he would be open to having another match in the future.
However, movie studios are cautious of the potential risk of injury that could happen to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
The Rock's last match was at WrestleMania 32, when he defeated current SmackDown Live Tag Team Champion Rowan in 8 seconds.
Rampage is in cinemas now and tells the story of a scientist who's friend, an albino gorilla grows to massive proportions after an experiment goes wrong.
