WNS Column: Next best heel/face turn for the company

Happy Canada Day, to my fellow Canadian readers. Be sure to enjoy a Canadian beer and a sloppy poutine for me on this day!

Coming off of a fairly good Money in The Bank pay-per-view, Raw presented us with a surprising face turn that captivated the entire arena. It’s ironic because it’s answered my question of this week, but I still want to provide my insight on this question as fun can be had from it.

Question: Since the event of the Seth Rollins heel turn, what do YOU think would be the next best heel or face turn for the company? What benefits would come from it, and ultimately would it be “best for business”?

I almost forgot to say hi to you, IWC. How’s it hanging?

First pick of mine actually happened during Raw and I’m incredibly excited about it. While watching Rusev and Lana do their usual gig in the ring (Lana begins, starts with smiles, tells crowd to shut up, praises Rusev and Russia, looks good, and so on) and they go on to mention how no one can stop them. Just then, a familiar beating of the drums sound occurs and out walks Swagger, accompanied by Zeb. At first, the fans weren’t that loud or excited about it but once they stepped foot in the ring and began to deliver their promo, the face turn was upon us. Having Zeb tell Lana to “Shut the hell up” got over nicely with the crowd and every time Zeb referenced the audience as “true Americans” it tied everything together nicely. The cherry on the top was having the arena chant along with Zeb and Swagger “WE, THE PEOPLE”.

This was followed with a “LET’S GO SWAGGER” chant, heard loudly by everyone in the arena and on TV. I’m excited to see where this goes and I’m hopeful this pans out till at least Summerslam. After that, let Swagger get back into a main event status role, while being a baby face.

Next pick for heel now would have to be Sheamus. Is there a star that’s more irrelevant being a face than him? Sheamus needs a shakeup with his character and going heel would be most ideal for him. He’s a good face don’t get me wrong, but he’s one nasty heel and a great one at that. He could bring back that borderline psychotic rage side he often uses with his baby face status, but add even more aggression into it with him being a heel. We’re in need of more heels also considering the major heels we have at the moment consist of Orton, Rollins, Kane, and Rusev if you want to add him to the group. Guys like Cesaro or Barrett or Bray are neutral with the crowd as there isn’t a definitive reaction given to either star. Certain arena’s cheer or boo more than others.

Something that would be nice to see for a short while would be an Orton face turn again. Much like Sheamus, Orton plays a great heel but he’s been a heel for almost a year now. Long time heels don’t work as well as they used to and Orton could be due for a face turn. One way would be to have him cost Rollins his chance to win the title, and that could even be the launch for a Rollins face turns if they wanted to do that as well. Have it be similar to how HHH turned on Orton back in the Evolution days. Rollins gets so big, bigger than Orton or HHH wanted and turn on him.

One area I’m always going to want but more than likely won’t get will be a Cena heel turn. I know everyone will bark at me on how he’s their top selling guy with regards to merchandise, carrying the company, etcetera. However, this could be the next huge turning point in wrestling where Hogan did a similar turn back in 96’ at Bash at the Beach. The shock factor alone would be a memorable moment in wrestling history, and there’s no denying that he’s the new Hulk Hogan of this era. I know this will never happen, but honestly sit there and think this one over on what the outcome could be from it. Hell, he might even get cheered because of it. He won’t be going anywhere for at least another 10 years, so there’s time to maybe do something to his character.

This may be a tad off topic for question wise, but given some awesome finishers we get to see, what is your top 10 finishers from the last 2 decades (and in order). Provide a little blurb to each pick as well.

^That sounds like a homework assignment question, but just go along with it, ok?

Looking forward to seeing these comments and I encourage you to send questions in that you would like me to potentially cover as well!

You stay classy, Internet Wrestling Community,

Quinn
