Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is adding another Disney project to his growing film portfolio, this time bringing Greek mythology to the screen.
According to Deadline, Johnson will produce a live-action film centred on Medusa, the snake-haired figure whose gaze could turn people to stone. For wrestling fans, that is Medusa from mythology, rather than WWE Hall of Famer Madusa, also known as Alundra Blayze.
Johnson is attached as a producer, with no starring role currently confirmed. Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro provided the following details:
“Note, this is not a starring vehicle for Dwayne Johnson at this point in time (but how cool would it be if it ultimately is?). Johnson is producing with his Seven Bucks partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, with Melissa Fried overseeing for the label. Matt Smith is also producing under Electro Corduroy Entertainment.”
Michael Montemayor will write the first draft of the screenplay. He has also worked on Disney’s upcoming live-action Tangled adaptation, giving him another project involving a character with rather distinctive hair.
Medusa is being developed through the multi-year first-look film agreement Seven Bucks signed with Disney in June 2024. The company expanded its Disney relationship in February 2025 through a separate deal with 20th Television to develop television programming.
Johnson and Seven Bucks’ other Disney collaborations include Jungle Cruise and the live-action adaptation of Moana.
