Tiffany Stratton’s Money in the Bank victory was reportedly decided well in advance, but WWE changed the outcome of her final match before the event on the day of the show.
According to Fightful Select, WWE’s long-term plan was for Stratton to claim the briefcase and eventually challenge Chelsea Green for the WWE Women’s Championship. However, the six-woman tag team match on the October 9 episode of SmackDown underwent a late change.
Stratton teamed with Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne and Lash Legend to defeat Lola Vice, Roxanne Perez and Sol Ruca in Lafayette, Louisiana. The original result reportedly had the opposing team winning.
“We’re told that as of that day, the result was going to be the opposite,” Fightful’s report read. “The women involved in the Money in the Bank ladder match had learned the night before (Thursday) that Stratton would be winning.”
Legend secured the victory by pinning Ruca, then attacked her partners and laid out Stratton with the Lash Extension. All six competitors went on to take part in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match the following night in New Orleans.
Despite Legend standing tall on SmackDown, Stratton had the final say at Money in the Bank. She fought off Legend at the top of a ladder before retrieving the briefcase.
Green had said she was “manifesting a Tiffy win” ahead of the event. Their friendship has continued since Stratton’s victory, with the briefcase holder instead setting her sights on Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan.
The Judgment Day prevented Stratton from cashing in on Morgan on SmackDown. Morgan then pinned Green during a six-woman tag team match on the November 2 episode of Raw in Brooklyn, ahead of their champion versus champion clash at Crown Jewel.
The reported long-term plan adds another layer to Stratton’s friendship with Green, particularly while she holds a guaranteed championship opportunity.
Should Tiffany Stratton cash in on Liv Morgan, or would turning on Chelsea Green make the better story? Let us know in the comments.
