WWE is reportedly offering crew members $3,000 in hazard pay to work Crown Jewel in Riyadh on Saturday, 7 November. Even with the extra money on the table, several have decided to sit out the Saudi Arabia trip.
Two WWE employees told WrestleVotes on Fightful Select that the offer was $3,000 for crew members who agreed to travel. WWE does not usually offer hazard pay for routine production work. The crew travelling to Riyadh will be responsible for staging, equipment and getting the show on air.
The concerns extend to the locker room. Earlier reports indicated that several wrestlers, including some prominent names, had reservations about travelling. Some asked WWE to leave them off the Crown Jewel card, while others who were already booked raised questions about their safety.
WWE officials reportedly assured talent that safety would be a priority. The company was also preparing to take a smaller crew than usual, reducing the number of people making the trip.
The report cited a Level 3 travel advisory from the US State Department urging Americans to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia over security concerns. Crown Jewel remained on the schedule for Saturday in Riyadh.
If you were on the crew, what would you want to know before deciding whether to make the trip? Let us know in the comments.
