WWE has discussed bringing NXT’s Iron Survivor Challenge to the main roster, and one WWE source sees a place for it in the race for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The match has traditionally been a fixture of NXT Deadline, where wrestlers compete to earn a title shot. With NXT TLC taking Deadline’s place this December, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select looked into what might come next for the match.

“Following the news that in place of NXT Deadline will be NXT TLC in December, WrestleVotes on Fightful Select asked about the annual Iron Survivor Challenge match that takes place at Deadline and if it could end up as a main roster match type.”

WWE had already considered using the format on the main roster. Whether the change to NXT’s calendar will lead to a move remains open.

“That source relayed that the match has been discussed in the past for potential main roster use, but they couldn’t confirm if its absence from this year’s NXT schedule makes that possibility any more likely.”

The report also named one title chase that a source felt would suit the format.

“One source indicated that the match type could fit into a few of the current storylines, including the Undisputed WWE Title picture.”

Bruce Prichard is said to be a fan of the match. During a 2 November Q&A, WrestleVotes wondered whether Prichard might try to bring it to the main roster before his expected retirement.

“I heard a rumor. They like the concept. Bruce Prichard is one of those guys who really likes the concept himself. With him retiring, maybe one more before I go … I’m bringing this to the main roster as my Pat Patterson moment of the Royal Rumble, so we’ll see if that’s something that will happen.”
