Ethan Page captured his first WWE main roster championship on the November 2 episode of RAW, defeating Chad Gable to become Intercontinental Champion.
Gable headed into the defence with an injured neck following Page’s EgoPlex on the floor the previous week. He refused to back down, but the damage gave his challenger an opening throughout the contest.
The champion started aggressively, taking Page down and unloading with punches. Page soon responded with a twisting neckbreaker and drove Gable chest-first into the corner, adding to his discomfort.
Gable changed his approach by targeting Page’s left ankle. After driving it into the ring post and delivering two Dragon Screws, he applied the Ankle Lock. Page reached the bottom rope to force a break, but Gable continued to pile on the pressure.
An Angle Slam onto the announce desk and a middle-rope moonsault put Gable in control. Page fought back by sending him face-first into the barricade before dropping him into the timekeeper’s area.
Back in the ring, Page blocked a diving headbutt by raising his feet. Gable recovered quickly enough to secure another Ankle Lock, forcing Page into another desperate escape.
Page then delivered an over-the-shoulder powerslam from the middle rope, but Gable kicked out. The champion answered with a powerbomb for a near fall before returning to the Ankle Lock once more.
Gable’s persistence was not enough to retain the gold. Page escaped and connected with the EgoPlex, securing the three-count and bringing Gable’s reign to an end.
