Tiffany Stratton’s latest Money in the Bank victory reportedly came down to WWE wanting to surprise its audience, with growing support for Roxanne Perez playing a part in the decision.
During a recent Q&A, TC of WrestleVotes discussed why Stratton secured the briefcase for a second time despite Perez being a popular choice among fans.
According to TC, WWE has been placing greater emphasis on keeping its results unpredictable. With more people backing Perez ahead of the match, Stratton offered an outcome fewer viewers expected.
“The zigzags come in. A lot of people started to get on the Roxanne Perez train, and now, more so than ever, WWE wants to stay one step ahead of everyone’s predictions and thought process.”
TC said those predictions extended to contributors on WWE’s own radio programming.
“It goes even so far as WWE Radio on SiriusXM,” he continued. “A lot of the contributors on that program had those people picked as most likely to win.”
However, the decision was apparently about more than creating a surprise. TC also pointed to a story involving Stratton and Chelsea Green that could give the briefcase victory a direction moving forward.
“Not a lot of people had Tiffany to come in and win that briefcase again. It was a ‘doing different to be different.’ Yes, there is a story there with her and Chelsea Green, and I’m sure we’ll see that play out.”
The result drew criticism on social media and WWE’s YouTube channel, with fans who had hoped to see Perez take the next step expressing their disappointment.
For Stratton, the focus now turns to what WWE has planned for her second run with the briefcase. A potential story with Green could help explain the decision, although TC’s comments do not confirm how that story will unfold.
