Trick Williams left SmackDown with the WWE United States Championship after defeating Baron Corbin inside a Steel Cage, but his challenger delivered a surprise along the way.

Their September 25 clash marked their fourth title meeting and was billed as the final chapter in a rivalry that began with Corbin’s WWE return in July. Corbin captured the championship at SummerSlam before Williams won it back at Sunday Night’s Main Event earlier this month.

Corbin took charge early, using the cage to make life difficult for the champion. Williams fought back with a cutter and attempted to climb to freedom, only for Corbin to catch him at the top.

The pair exchanged blows above the ring before Williams knocked Corbin down. Another escape attempt ended badly for the champion, however, as Corbin caught him in a guillotine and hauled him back over the cage before delivering a huge superplex.

Both men continued searching for a way out. During a scramble near the door, Corbin dragged Williams back inside and kicked the door into Lil Yachty at ringside.

Williams then landed the Trick Shot, seemingly putting victory within reach. Instead, Corbin kicked out, leaving the champion stunned. Commentary highlighted the significance of the moment, stating that nobody had previously escaped a pin after the move.

Corbin nearly turned that opening into a championship victory. He threw Williams into the cage, followed with a German suplex and connected with Deep Six, but Williams kept his title hopes alive by kicking out.

An attempted End of Days proved to be the turning point. Williams countered and sent Corbin into the cage before delivering three Book Ends to finally secure the pinfall.

The victory brought their rivalry to a close, with Williams still holding the United States Championship despite Corbin surviving his signature strike.
