Stephanie Vaquer’s surprise Women’s World Championship victory in Chile reportedly came down to WWE wanting to give her a special moment in front of her home country’s fans.

Vaquer defeated Liv Morgan at the September 12 live event in Santiago, with Becky Lynch serving as special guest referee. The title change surprised fans, particularly after Morgan had retained against Vaquer on the September 7 episode of Raw.

Speaking during a Q&A, WrestleVotes explained that the location was the main reason WWE chose to switch the championship at an untelevised show.

“For Stephanie to go over where she did was simply based on location. They had the moment right there, and they didn’t want to squander that moment, so they did a good job of figuring out how to get there with Becky Lynch involved. They wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown. That’s the reason she is the new champion.”

Lynch played a key role in the finish, refusing to complete Morgan’s pinfall count. That gave Vaquer an opportunity to recover and capture the championship, ending Morgan’s 148-day reign.

The victory marked Vaquer’s second Women’s World Championship win and led to an emotional celebration with the Chilean crowd. Addressing fans afterwards, she reflected on how far she had come since dreaming of a career in WWE.

“18 years ago I was up there dreaming of becoming a WWE Superstar. Dreams are not impossible. This seemed impossible, but we’re going to keep making history because Chile f*cking changed!”

Triple H also celebrated the occasion, describing the title change as “What. A. Moment.”

According to the report, WWE felt the opportunity to crown Vaquer in Chile was too special to pass up, giving fans at the live event a championship celebration to remember.
