TNA Wrestling has added a new name to its roster, with former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Joe Alonzo officially earning a contract with the promotion.
Alonzo secured his place in TNA during the Countdown to Lockdown pre-show, where he put the AAW Heavyweight Championship on the line against the Home Town Man. There was more than championship gold at stake, as a victory would also guarantee Alonzo a TNA deal.
The closing moments saw Alonzo resort to some questionable tactics. He removed the Home Town Man's mask to create a distraction before quickly rolling him up to score the three-count. The victory allowed Alonzo to retain the AAW Heavyweight Championship while also becoming TNA's newest signing.
AAW Wrestling celebrated the result on X, writing:
“After pulling off the mask of @thehometownman and a quick roll up, your winner and STILL your AAW Heavyweight Champion and the NEWEST @tnawrestling superstar, The King of Chicago, @joealonzojr!”
The opportunity had been put together ahead of Lockdown by TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella, who appeared at AAW Unbreakable to announce the stipulation.
AAW previously shared Marella's announcement:
“The TNA Wrestling Director of Authority @milanmiracle just appeared at #AAWUnbreakable and announced that TOMORROW at #TNALockdown, the AAW Heavyweight Champion @JoeAlonzoJr will defend the AAW Heavyweight Championship against @TheHomeTownMan and if Joe wins, he gets a TNA Wrestling contract!”
Alonzo now begins the next chapter of his career as part of the TNA roster. In addition to his current reign as AAW Heavyweight Champion, Alonzo previously held the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.
