Lil Yachty is preparing to swap the recording studio for the wrestling ring, and it appears his upcoming WWE debut has been months in the making.
During Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE confirmed that the Grammy-nominated rapper will step into the ring against United States Champion Baron Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6.
However, this will not be a standard singles match. Yachty has been given one objective: survive five minutes against Corbin.
If Yachty manages to make it to the five-minute mark, Trick Williams will earn another opportunity at the United States Championship later that same night.
While the announcement may have caught some fans by surprise, Yachty reportedly isn't walking into the match without preparation.
Bryan Alvarez revealed to subscribers on X on Saturday that the rapper has quietly been putting in considerable work ahead of his WWE debut. According to Alvarez, Yachty has been training alongside WWE star Ivy Nile and her husband, fitness instructor Ari Levy, for several months.
Alvarez wrote:

That preparation could prove crucial considering who will be standing across the ring from him on September 6.
Corbin captured the United States Championship from Trick Williams at WWE SummerSlam on August 2 and has remained busy since taking possession of the gold.
The champion successfully defended against Williams on the August 7 edition of SmackDown before retaining against Carmelo Hayes one week later on August 14. Corbin has also put the championship on the line at several WWE live events.
Now Yachty faces a very different challenge. He doesn't necessarily need to defeat Corbin, but surviving five minutes against the United States Champion could be enough to dramatically change the championship picture later in the evening.
