Brie Bella has revealed that her recovery from a broken scapula took another difficult turn, resulting in an unexpected trip to hospital less than two weeks after WWE SummerSlam.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, Bella shared what she jokingly described as a "TMI" story about the frightening incident.
Bella had recently ventured out for a meal for the first time since suffering her broken shoulder blade. According to the WWE star, the restaurant did not fully understand the seriousness of her gluten intolerance, which became particularly problematic because she had already been dealing with constipation caused by the pain medication she was taking for her injury.
After returning home, Bella began experiencing severe stomach pain and quickly realised something was wrong.
“I was like, whatever, fine, I’m good , was not good. Go home, I get my severe crazy pain in my stomach and all this, and I knew it was coming, because like, it’s weird what my body will start to do,” she said. “But remind you all, I hadn’t used the restroom for like eight days. If not, maybe I’m at 10 [days]. I don’t know. My body went from zero to 1000 on the toilet, because what happens to me is I get really sick from both ends. So I’m on the toilet and my daughter’s talking to me because she can tell like everything’s wrong.”
With her condition worsening, Bella contacted her husband, Bryan Danielson, who was outside at the time. Their nanny, who Bella noted is a nursing student, was also present and able to help as the situation became more serious.
Bella eventually lost consciousness and became unresponsive, prompting Danielson to call emergency services.
“I’m completely out, like out,” Bella said. “So they carry me to our bed, and Bryan calls 911 because I’m incoherent. Like, I had blacked out. Like, I’m just not responding.”
Bella said she regained consciousness while being transported in the ambulance. She believes the significant loss of fluids contributed to her passing out and admitted she was extremely embarrassed by what had happened, repeatedly apologising to the EMTs.
Once she arrived at hospital, doctors carried out tests while also taking additional precautions because of her broken scapula. Bella explained that medical staff were reluctant to move her unnecessarily while she remained dizzy and disoriented.
“They didn’t want to move me, and I was so dizzy still and out of it,” she said. “And with the broken scapula, there was just so much stuff going on. So, finally, after two IV bags and some medicine , started to feel better. And then once I could walk, I was able to walk to the bathroom and Bryan had to clean me , my poor husband.”
Although Bella described the ordeal as "so embarrassing," enough time has now passed for her and twin sister Nikki Bella to see the funny side of what was an alarming experience.
Brie Bella Provides Update On Broken Scapula
Bella also offered some encouraging news regarding the shoulder injury she suffered at WWE SummerSlam.
She will not require surgery and has now started physical therapy as she begins the rehabilitation process. Bella is expected to undergo her first X-ray shortly, with additional X-rays planned every two weeks to monitor the healing process.
Around five weeks into her recovery, Bella is scheduled to undergo a CT scan so doctors can determine whether the bones are fusing correctly.
The current expectation is that Bella could potentially return to the ring within three to six months, although her progress will continue to be monitored as she works through rehabilitation.
