NJPW is preparing to take professional wrestling somewhere a little different next month, with three matches confirmed for a special event taking place inside an airport.
The promotion will head to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido on September 18 for an event titled "Pro Wrestling Take Off." The unusual show forms part of celebrations marking 100 years since the airport's original incarnation.
NJPW has now announced the complete three-match lineup:
- Yota Tsuji, Taiji Ishimori, Shingo Takagi & Robbie X vs. Hirooki Goto, YOH, YOSHI-HASHI & Tatsuya Matsumoto
_Ryohei Oiwa, Hartley Jackson & Kosei Fujita vs. Aaron Wolf, Yuya Uemura & Taichi
- Yuto-Ice, OSKAR & Daiki Nagai vs. Togi Makabe, Toru Yano & Masatora Yasuda
The event will not be televised and comes just nine days before NJPW presents Destruction in Kobe on September 27. That show is currently scheduled to feature Yota Tsuji defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Hirooki Goto in the main event.
Special Rules For The Airport Show#
Holding a wrestling event inside an operational airport naturally brings some additional restrictions.
NJPW has made clear that regular airport operations and the safe movement of passengers will take priority throughout the event. Reserved seating will be available alongside a free standing area, although organizers may restrict access, temporarily close the area or remove it altogether should airport operations require it.
Fans purchasing front-row tickets will also receive a randomly selected autograph from either NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi or one of the wrestlers appearing on the card.
Tanahashi himself is also scheduled to make an appearance during the event, adding another attraction to one of NJPW's most unusual shows of the year.
