ECW veteran The Blue Meanie has revealed he is dealing with broken ribs following a fall, while also mourning a recent death in his family.

Brian Heffron, best known to wrestling fans as The Blue Meanie, shared the difficult update on Instagram and explained why he has been quieter than usual and slow to respond to messages.

“If you’re trying to reach me and I haven’t replied I am dealing with broken ribs after a fall. I’m in a huge amount of pain. On top of that I’ve had a death in the family. If you have any special vibes to send my way I can really use them. Thank you.”

The 53-year-old did not reveal how the fall occurred or whether it had anything to do with wrestling. He also understandably kept details surrounding his family bereavement private.

There is currently no timetable for his recovery.

Meanie has remained involved in professional wrestling more than three decades after beginning his career. While no longer maintaining a regular schedule, he has continued to make occasional appearances, with his most recent match taking place in January 2026.

Fans have also seen him pop up for several memorable appearances in recent years. Earlier this year, he made an unannounced appearance at the ACW Poughkeepsie Rumble at the MJN Center. In 2025, he appeared at ROH Death Before Dishonor as part of then-ROH Women's World Champion Athena's entrance.

Heffron began training at Al Snow's Bodyslammers gym in Lima, Ohio, in March 1994 before working across the independent scene. His career changed after Raven and Stevie Richards spotted him at an event in Pittsburgh, ultimately leading to his arrival in ECW.

Inspired by the villains from the Beatles' 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine, The Blue Meanie quickly became one of ECW's most recognizable personalities.

His popularity grew further in 1996 when he joined Richards and Nova to form the Blue World Order. Originally conceived as a parody of the nWo, the bWo developed a cult following of its own and remains fondly remembered by ECW fans three decades later.

Meanie later made the jump to WWE, becoming involved with Goldust before challenging Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental Championship on the July 17, 1999 edition of Shotgun Saturday Night. After spending time on WWE's secondary programming and live events, he was sent to Memphis Championship Wrestling in 2000 and briefly teamed with Jim Neidhart as the New Foundation.

Following his WWE release, he returned to ECW as Blue Boy before making another brief WWE comeback surrounding ECW One Night Stand in 2005.

Since then, Meanie has remained a familiar face on the independent wrestling scene, particularly around Philadelphia and the Northeast, while also making appearances outside wrestling, including a role in The Wrestler.

No further update has been provided on when Meanie might return to the ring or make another wrestling appearance.
