The Rock Ends 10-Year Partnership With Under Armour

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Under Armour are officially going their separate ways after a decade in business together.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the WWE legend is taking back control of his Project Rock training brand as his partnership with the sportswear giant comes to an end.

Johnson and business partner Dany Garcia retain ownership of the Project Rock trademark and are now expected to seek a new manufacturing partner to take the brand into its next chapter.

Project Rock launched in 2017 and grew into a major fitness line featuring footwear, performance clothing and accessories. The brand also secured a multi-year partnership with UFC.

For Johnson, however, Project Rock has always represented more than gym gear.

“At my core, training is one of my key pillars of which my foundation has been built. It’s beyond just ‘lifting weights.’ It’s the daily commitment to sweat equity and how that informs my decisions in all areas of life,” Johnson said. “We can’t control how the world spins to hug us or hit us, but we can always control how we respond. There’s an innate discipline that training breeds in all of us, that allows us to tap into those responses. And watching our Project Rock community empower themselves with this mindset has been one of the most rewarding parts of this long, ever growing journey.”

While Project Rock enjoyed considerable success during its earlier years, Under Armour has placed less emphasis on the line recently as the company restructures its core operations and puts greater focus on its UA Train collection.

Despite the split, there appears to be no bad blood between either side.

“After an impressive 10-year run, Under Armour and Dwayne Johnson are bringing our partnership to a natural conclusion,” Under Armour said. “As we sharpen our focus and strengthen our core business, we’re creating a more unified expression in our train category. We’re incredibly grateful to DJ and his entire team for their partnership, friendship and everything we’ve built together over the past decade. We wish him and his team nothing but continued success.”

Existing Project Rock products will reportedly continue to be sold by Under Armour through October 2026.

Johnson also reflected positively on the decade-long relationship while making it clear Project Rock is moving forward.

“I’m grateful to Under Armour and to every person who helped us build this epic chapter of Project Rock. I’m proud of what we created together, and even more proud of all the people behind the scenes who poured themselves into Project Rock and took great pride in making it their own. You know who you are, I see all of you and, I’m forever grateful. Now we move on to new north stars, new partners, and with one intention in mind: deliver for the people. We build it, together.”

The Rock becomes the latest major celebrity athlete to move away from Under Armour following Stephen Curry's departure from the company.

Project Rock, however, isn't disappearing. With Johnson and Garcia controlling the trademark and searching for a new production partner, the brand looks set for a fresh start outside the Under Armour umbrella.
