Jeff Cobb has made his return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, resurfacing in dramatic fashion during the G1 Climax 36 final.
Cobb appeared during Sunday's event following a multi-man tag team match involving Callum Newman and Daiki Nagai. After the bell, Newman was seen confronting Nagai while armed with his sword, prompting Gedo to intervene.
Gedo told Newman that he knew someone capable of dealing with his attitude, which led to Cobb making his surprise entrance.
The former United Empire member immediately came face-to-face with Newman. Although Newman appeared willing to smooth things over with his former stablemate, Cobb showed no interest in a reunion and shoved him to the mat.
The angle also revealed Cobb's new direction in NJPW, with the returning star aligning himself with Gedo as the latest member of Unbound Corp.
Cobb Returns Following WWE Departure
Cobb's appearance brings him back to a promotion where he spent a significant portion of his career.
After initially arriving in NJPW in 2017, Cobb became a prominent part of the roster and later established himself as a key member of United Empire. His first run with the company came to an end in April 2025 when NJPW granted his release.
Cobb was one-half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions when he departed, resulting in the championships being vacated.
It did not take long for his next destination to become clear. Cobb debuted for WWE at Backlash the following month and was introduced as part of Solo Sikoa's MFT faction.
During his approximately year-long stint with WWE, Cobb captured the WWE Tag Team Championship before his time with the promotion came to an end.
Cobb and fellow MFT member Tonga Loa were among those released as part of WWE roster cuts in May following WrestleMania 42.
Now, just months after leaving WWE, Cobb has returned to familiar surroundings in NJPW, but with a very different allegiance than during his previous run.
