Details Emerge On How Chelsea Green Was Injured On WWE SmackDown

WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green is dealing with a significant injury following her appearance on the August 7, 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown.

Green joined forces with Tiffany Stratton for a tag team match against WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. Green and Stratton ultimately came up short, but it was what happened during the closing moments of the contest that has since become the bigger story.

Following the show, Green revealed that she had suffered a broken orbital bone during the match.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez provided further details on the incident and indicated that the injury occurred while Green was taking the finishing move from Fatal Influence.

“There was a tag match they did on the show, and it was Fatal Influence versus Chelsea and Tiffany. They did the match and everything was going along as it should, and then at the very end Fatal Influence hit Chelsea with their finish. It looked on TV like everything was fine, but in fact everything was not fine. Lainey fell on Chelsea’s head in doing the move, and Chelsea broke her orbital bone.

“So now the interim champion has a broken orbital bone. She’s acknowledged it. We don’t know how long she’s going to be out. Probably we’ll know in a couple of days. Maybe a deal where she can wear that thing on her face. Maybe she’ll have to also vacate. I don’t know what’s going on, but she is hurt.

“I have heard people saying within wrestling that this is not a good finish anyway, so we’ll see if they end up getting a new finish. But it was one of those finishes where it looked like nothing went wrong, but somebody got badly injured.”

At this stage, there has been no confirmation regarding how much time Green could miss as a result of the injury. Alvarez suggested that WWE may have several options depending on the severity, including Green potentially competing with protective equipment, although he also raised the possibility that her championship situation could be affected.

The incident may also lead to changes for Fatal Influence. According to Alvarez, there have been people within wrestling who have questioned the finishing move itself, meaning WWE could potentially decide to move the team away from using it in future matches.

Green's injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time given her position in WWE's women's division, and further information regarding her recovery timetable is expected once the extent of the injury and treatment required becomes clearer.
