Baron Corbin is set to appear on next week’s episode of MLW Fusion in a title defence with an unusual wrinkle: the match was taped three months ago, he lost it, and MLW’s promotional material shows him carrying a WWE championship he did not own at the time.

Working in MLW as Bishop Dyer, Corbin will team with Donovan Dijak and Josh Bishop as The Skyscrapers to defend the MLW World Tag Team Championship against The Good Brothers, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, in a Tennessee Tornado match.

The graphic promoting the match has attracted attention because Dyer is pictured with the WWE United States Championship over his shoulder, with the belt seemingly added to the older image.

Corbin only captured the United States Championship six days ago, defeating Trick Williams during night two of WWE SummerSlam.

That creates a strange visual when compared with when the MLW match actually took place.

The bout was taped back on May 9 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, several months before Corbin became United States Champion. The result is also already known, with Anderson and Gallows defeating The Skyscrapers to capture the MLW World Tag Team Championship.

MLW regularly records episodes of Fusion well ahead of their eventual broadcast dates, meaning the outcome has effectively been public knowledge since the spring.

Corbin has continued working for both WWE and MLW without the arrangement causing any apparent conflict. He returned to WWE earlier this year following a period away from the company, while maintaining his Bishop Dyer character in MLW.

Speaking recently on Busted Open, Corbin discussed how his time outside WWE changed his approach to wrestling. He explained that being away forced him to put in a level of work he felt had been missing previously, and he returned determined to prove a point.

Now, viewers will see two different points in Corbin’s career collide on television, with the newly crowned WWE United States Champion appearing in footage recorded months before his latest WWE success.
