WWE has officially laid out the path to Roman Reigns, revealing the full bracket for the upcoming WWE and AAA No. 1 Contender’s Tournament.
The tournament will determine who receives the opportunity to challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship when WWE heads to Mexico City for the September 14 edition of Monday Night RAW.
The announcement also brings some clarity following recent speculation surrounding El Grande Americano, who had been linked to a potential championship encounter with Reigns. WWE has instead confirmed that the title opportunity will be earned through the crossover tournament.
Four opening-round matches have been announced, with bouts taking place across both WWE RAW and AAA programming:
RAW, August 10: Penta vs. Laredo Kid
AAA, August 15: Psycho Clown vs. La Parka
RAW, August 17: Dragon Lee vs. Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.
RAW, August 17: Rey Fénix vs. El Fiscal
The field brings together established WWE names and several prominent AAA competitors, giving the tournament a genuine crossover feel.
Penta, Dragon Lee and Rey Fénix will each be looking to secure their place further into the tournament, while the AAA side of the bracket includes Psycho Clown, La Parka, Laredo Kid, Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and El Fiscal.
With a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity awaiting the eventual winner, the tournament adds another major storyline to WWE's upcoming Mexico City show.
One competitor will ultimately make it through the field and stand across the ring from Roman Reigns on September 14, but WWE has ensured there will be several intriguing matchups before that challenger is decided.
