Shawn Michaels recently shared his thoughts on CM Punk's return to WWE during an appearance on Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg. He expressed his excitement for both Punk and the WWE Universe, noting the positive impact of Punk's return.
Michaels said, "Like everybody else; happy, thrilled, Holy Cow. I got asked a couple months ago, āif you had a chance to use him, would you?ā Yeah, who wouldnāt? I understand business. I wasnāt always the most popular guy with people, but I was really good at my job. I feel like thatās one of the reasons Iāve had one here in the WWE for almost 40 years. Iām dependable and Iām good at my job. If you are that, there is always an opportunity here if you want one. Iām happy for him, Iām happy for the company. Iām happy for the WWE fanbase, the WWE Universe. Stories like this are always fantastic, even if theyāre controversial, thatās part of what makes them fantastic. There are times, I donāt always know whatās going on. Truth be told, I donāt think sometimes they know whatās going on. Unpredictability is just that, unpredictable. Thatās what makes this job so fantastic and so unique. Thatās why weāve continued to thrive for 40-plus years."
He also acknowledged that Punk's initial return might be awkward due to past comments about WWE, but he believes that everyone is ready to move forward and focus on business.
Michaels added, "Early on, itās uncomfortable. After a while, you get used to it. Everybody would prefer to be liked. Second guessing is always going to on in this line of work. It is impossible to please 100% of the people 100% of the time. In any line of work and any walk of life, anyone can say, āI like this guy and I get along with him,ā and theyāre talking about him two minutes later. That goes for everyone, even the most liked individuals. Heās been doing this for a long time. Iāve always liked Phil and I always understood theā¦heaven forbid you have a different opinion. That kind of stuff doesnāt bother me. At one time, it did, and I didnāt have the maturity to accept and respect otherās opinions if they didnāt agree with mine. At one point, it might have bothered him. I would imagine heās accepted it as a reality and is good with that."
