On next Tuesday’s WWE NXT 2.0 New Year’s Evil special, Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong will go up against North American Champion Carmelo Hayes in a match that is set to unify the two title belts.

In a preview on the official WWE website, the company revealed that the unified belts will be known as the NXT North American Cruiserweight Title going forward.

There had been internal talks among WWE officials about dropping the cruiserweight title which was first brought back in 2016 with TJ Perkins as the first champion.
