Brian Pillman Jr. recently spoke with Fightful Select and has praised AEW for allowing its talent to be creative. Pillman, who is set to challenge AEW TNT Champion Miro on tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite, had the following to say about pitching the name for the Varsity Blonds:
âGoing into pitching the Varsity Blonds, I didnâtâactually, I asked two people and I wonât name them. I will not name these people. I asked two people in AEW, that are very prominent figures, what they thought about the name Varsity Blonds. They both relatively said the same thing. âOh, thatâs stupid. Youâre wrestlers. Youâre not football players.â I said, âYou know what? Fuck it. Iâm pitching it anyways.â Then here we are.â
On aligning with Julia Hart:
âYeah, she just fell into our pockets. Itâs like someone dropped a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Just landed right in the locker room. We order these jackets. It takes months to make a real custom leather varsity, high school jacket. So, I ordered them several months ago. The guyâs like, âOh, we got the fabric and everythingâs coming in. Theyâre gonna be ready this week,â when weâre in Florida taping. Like, that taping she showed up for extra work. It might have been her second week.â
On pitching the idea to Cody:Â
âI went over and was like, âWell, shit. Sheâs already wearing blue. Sheâs already blonde. Sheâs actually former two-time national champion cheerleader,â and I went up to Cody and was like, âLook, we get we just got these new jackets, alright? Weâre not asking for pyro or anything crazy. But, can we get this girl to do a couple round-offs coming back in, just for our entrance. We donât have to have her in the match. Just for the entrance.â Then, âOkay, that sounds like a great idea.â Next thing you know, we got people helping us choreograph an entrance. We got people agenting our match, helping us incorporate her into the team. All of a sudden this collaborative effortâwhich is whatâs so great about AEWâis that when people see something, they see a spark, they donât want to go put out for fear of other people succeeding. They want to ignite that fire. They want to add something to the ember, to the flame. Thatâs what happened. Our agents and our coaches got together, helped us put this together. âCause all I had was a little idea. I didnât know how it was going to look in the end. But, thatâs what our veterans are here to do, to help us put it all together.â
