According to Chris Jericho on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, TNT is against AEW having surprise debuts on AEW Dynamite.

Jericho revealed that executives at TNT saw Sting's surprise debut and told the company not to do it again.

"I know when Sting was a surprise and the network was like ‘don’t do that again’. That’s why Paul Wight was announced on social media, because TNT said we don’t want surprises, we want to take advantage of the ratings.

So I think we had a big surprise then we had a big announcement and we used that big announcement to announce the next big surprise."
