Former WWE Champion CM Punk has said that new promotion All Elite Wrestling has "something great going on" but should focus on WWE less.
Punk, who left WWE in January 2014 has recently been promoting his new film 'Girl on the Third Floor' when he was asked about the AEW-WWE relationship.
Speaking to Zak Wojnar of Screen Rant, the Best in the World praised AEW stars such as Jon Moxley, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega but said the repeated WWE references weren't helping.
He said: "I just think it lessens and cheapens what they are doing when they constantly attack WWE.”
Elaborating, Punk said that there hasn't been realistic competition to WWE in so long but that AEW will be successful if AEW wrestlers focus on AEW.
“I would like them to just try to focus on their product and building it up and making it better,” he said. “I think that would benefit all the fans.”
There's no shortage of instances with AEW referencing WWE, including Cody Rhodes destroying a Triple H throne at Double or Nothing, and Chris Jericho recently bashing the company and their creative team during AEW Dynamite.
