Big Show Lambasts Betsy Devos Over Proposed Government Cuts To Special Olympics

WWE Superstar The Big Show has compared US Secretary of Education Betsy Devos to villain Cruella De Ville, following Devos' proposed funding cuts to the Special Olympics program.

The proposed funding cut, which has been widely criticized, would remove $18 million in government funding to the program, which is the largest sports organization for people with mental and physical disabilities.

An ambassador of the Special Olympics, Show said how he was appalled by the decision in an interview with TMZ Sports.

He said: "The message that she’s sending is that people with special needs, children with special needs, aren’t important enough to be part of society.

"Special Olympics is so important. It does so many good things for communities, and it’s so important for the kids who are involved. There’s gonna be over a quarter-million kids who are gonna be directly affected by this budget cut."

Show, who was announced as a Global Ambassador last year, also criticized Devos' defence of the cuts by saying she would donate some of her salary to the program.

"What did she say? ‘Oh, I’m gonna donate my $200,000 a year salary’? Whoopitty-doo! It doesn’t matter. You’re taking 17 - 18 million dollars away," he told TMZ.

Devos was appointed as Secretary of Education in February 2017 by President Trump, but has faced backlash for rolling back guidelines on how Universities should deal with sexual assault, and for having no history as an educator before being given the role.

Devos defended her cuts at a budget hearing earlier this week:

"Make no mistake: we are focused every day on raising expectations and improving outcomes for infants and toddlers, children and youth with disabilities, and are committed to confronting and addressing anything that stands in the way of their success."
