FOX 8 New Orleans reporter Allen Henry is reporting that a WWE fan from the United Kingdom who has been struck down with measles and hospitalized on Saturday was in attendance at the WWE Hall of Famer ceremony the night before and no doubt other events during the WrestleMania weekend.
The Louisiana Department of Health is in the process of contacting all those who may have come in contact with the tourist. If you have any concerns it is advised you seek advice from a doctor as soon as possible.
Measles is easily spread and considered highly contagious. When an infected person talks, coughs or sneezes, the virus is released into the air making it highly contractable. People can also become sick if they come in contact with the mucus or saliva from an infected person. In extreme cases, the illness can lead to hospitalization and even death.
Symptoms of measles generally appear about seven to 14 days after a person is infected.
Measles typically begins with high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Two or three days after symptoms begin, tiny white spots (Koplik spots) may appear inside the mouth of a patient.
We wish the fan well and hope WWE can reach out and invite them back to WrestleMania next year.
BREAKING: The UK tourist hospitalized with measles was at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony Friday before being hospitalized on Saturday. Attendees are receiving notifications from @LADeptHealth now. We’ll have more on @FOX8NOLA.
