Thanks to Reader Craig Dixon for sending in the following report:
TNA Westbury House Show results (2/22/08)
Parking lot was a nightmare at the Northfork Theater. The lobby was pretty packed, most people (including myself) waiting to get beer. The ring JUST fit on the circle shaped stage, leaving almost no landing area if you were to fall out of the ring, seemed pretty dangerous. Also, the lights above the stage were only a couple feet higher than the ring. Any time someone climbed the turnbuckle, they were inches from hitting their heads on the lights and speakers
JB came out to warm up the crowd, and announced that the Spike TV cameras were with TNA to show the loudest fans. Additionally, officials were supposedly around the theater to find the loudest fans in attendance and take them backstage to meet the TNA stars.
Rock n Rave Connection hits the ring first, to a chorus of boos. No Christie Hemme, sucks. LAX hits the ring next and get a pretty decent pop. Match was pretty average, crowd was pretty hot for it considering it was the opener. Homicide got the pinfall on Jimmy Rave.
Hebner refereed next and got a ton of “You screwed Bret” chants. He reacted pretty comically throughout the night to these chants, even motioning to fight some fans. X-Division Championship match was next in a good match between Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal. Lethal gets the win with his backbreaker/downward spiral finisher. Some Sonjay chants despite playing the heel in the match.
Awesome Kong defended her Knockouts Title against Gail Kim. Pretty much the same match that Kong’s been having over people lately. Jackie Moore was supposed to be in this match too but didn’t come. End comes when Kong hits the Awesome Bomb on Kim. Kim gets a pretty good reaction for her efforts after the match.
Next match was a “Long Island Street Fight” between Team 3D and the Motor City Machine Guns. They announced that Sabin and Shelley were representing Detroit which pretty much sealed their fate as heels for the match. Team 3D got a huge pop from the NY crowd when they said “representing New York”. Brother Ray brought a ladder to the ring, which was strangely not used at all after MCMG put it back under the ring. Sabin faked an injury and got major heat for it. 3D wins with a top rope powerbomb through a table. Pretty funny moment afterwards, when Devon went to give piece of the table to a kid, Ray criticized him for giving it to a black kid. They get a white kid after, and the black kid cries and wanted to leave the ring. So…they got another black kid, gave the pieces to both of them. Devon got another piece and gave it to the kid who cried. Really fun segment.
After intermission, we got a really good match between A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe. Big pop for Styles, even bigger for Joe. Crowd was 75% for Joe, 25% for Styles. During a pinning sequence, Joe reversed it into the rear naked choke as Joe got the submission victory. Crowd was really into this match. Styles, like Kim earlier, got a good pop for his efforts afterwards.
Next was Eric Young vs. James Storm with Jackie. Pretty funny match, especially when Hebner started getting physically involved. Young took off Hebner’s ref shirt and put it on. Hebner then began wrestling Storm while Young reffed. Hebner got a near fall. Jackie got involved as well. Eventually t went back to the original match and Young got the victory.
Next was the TNA World Title match between Christian Cage and Kurt Angle. Big pops for both, as Christian started a “You suck” chant against Angle despite the earlier pop. A nice dueling chant which featured “Instant Classic” vs. “Lets Go Angle”. Really fun match, Angle hit the Olympic Slam twice (once off the turnbuckle) and Cage still managed to kick out. Angle was able to pull off a moonsault despite the short stage, and missed Cage. Cage hit the Unprettier and got a nearfall. Angle locked in the Ankle lock, and did the grapevine hold and Cage eventually tapped after what seemed to be minutes in the hold. A couple of “this is awesome” and “where is Karen?” chants (which one time was answered with “she’s with A.J.” chant). Good match to send the crowd home happy.
JB came back to the ring to say that for $20, you could get a Polaroid with Kurt Angle inside the TNA ring with the TNA Championship. The kids mostly stayed, while everyone else tried to beat the traffic. Good overall show, the TNA merchandise stand looked packed on the way out.
