It was previously reported that Matt Sydal awarded the Impact Wrestling Grand Championship to ringside commentator Josh Mathews at the Impact television tapings a few days ago.

Impact Wrestling Executive Vice President Don Callis addressed the issue on Twitter, saying that the concept of the Grand Championship was a bad idea in the first place and that the title will now be retired.

That was the title that never should have been. Rounds system was one of the most sub optimal ideas in the history of the company. Majority of fans hated it.
