It was previously announced on Monday night's edition of WWE Raw that The Shield would face the team of Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Sheamus, and Cesaro in a Six-Man TLC Match at the upcoming Raw-exclusive TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs event on October 22nd.

In an update, however, it was revealed that later on in the broadcast, Miz would select a fourth individual to team with him, Sheamus, and Cesaro at the event, as Dean Ambrose stated that The Shield would face anyone at anytime, no matter how many people were involved. Miz would then reveal to General Manager Kurt Angle that Braun Strowman would be his team's additional partner, meaning that the main event at TLC will now be a 4 vs. 3 Handicap TLC Match.
