We revealed recently that Jeff Hardy sustained an injury to his shoulder back at the WWE Great Balls of Fire event and has been working hurt ever since. It was speculated by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Hardy would need surgery. The official WWE website is now reporting this indeed to be the case and Jeff will undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cup.
WWE is claiming the injury took place during the Six-Pack Challenge on last weekâs episode of Raw, although this is likely part of the storyline. Below is the announcement from WWE.com:
âJeff Hardy has suffered a torn rotator cuff and will undergo surgery to repair it, WWE.com has learned.
The former Raw Tag Team Champion sustained the injury during a Six-Pack Challenge on last weekâs Raw that was eventually won by Jason Jordan.
âJeff is dealing with a rotator cuff tear right now,â said WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Stephen Daquino. âItâs a full thickness tear of his supraspinatus tendon and a couple of other areas in the shoulder. Heâs going to go for evaluation and probably for surgery next week.â
Hardy added that he also tore his labrum and that he initially thought he dislocated his shoulder during the match.
âOnce they get in there, theyâll figure out more about what they have to repair,â said Hardy. âBut for sure, the rotator cuff has to be repaired, and then theyâll look at the labrum when they get in there.â
Hardy also revealed he would undergo the procedure next Tuesday, Oct. 3.
âItâs depressing,â Hardy told WWE.com. âMore than any time in a career, itâs those times that make you go, âWow, I love professional wrestling.â It sucks that I canât be involved in [a] match or canât get in there and do what I normally do because Iâm injured, but I just have to get over that, stop worrying about it and look forward and push myself to get repaired and healed and come back better than ever with a brand-new shoulder.â
However, as the road to recovery looms, Hardy would not rule out the possibility that the WWE Universe would see him on TV in a different capacity while he heals.
âThereâs a lot of crazy ideas,â said Hardy. âIt inspires me to think a lot more about what I can do other than the extreme stunts and still be entertaining.â
