Two different reports have come out regarding WWE's original plans for the Mae Young Classic tournament finals.

According to a report from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the finals were originally going to see Kairi Sane taking on Toni Storm instead of Shayna Baszler, although it's likely that Kairi still would have gone over regardless.

But according to a report from Sportskeeda.com, Shayna Baszler was actually penciled in to be the winner of the MYC and she probably would have won if not for the fact that she has yet to sign a WWE contract. Kairi Sane is reportedly signed to a WWE deal. Sportskeeda reports that Vince McMahon himself made the decision to have Kairi go over on Shayna.
