In an update on the future of Asuka and the NXT Women's Championship, it's being reported that Asuka's debut on the main roster is definitely imminent. It's still uncertain though which brand she'll be assigned to between Raw and SmackDown Live.

As for the NXT Women's Championship, one idea that has been brought up backstage is to have the winner of the Mae Young Classic tournament be crowned as the new NXT Women's Champion. The tournament finals are set for September 12 at 10:00 PM from Las Vegas, Nevada, as soon as SmackDown Live goes off the air.

As has been widely reported now, the finals will see former mixed martial arts standout Shayna Baszler take on Japanese sensation Kairi Sane. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it's possible that this match will now determine the new NXT Women's Champion as well.
