A.J. Styles just successfully defended the WWE United States Championship against former three-time United States Champion Kevin Owens on SmackDown Live in controversial fashion. Moments earlier, Owens went to punch Styles in the face but Styles moved and Owens knocked down referee Mike Chioda. Owens then went for the Pop-Up Powerbomb on Styles but Styles transitioned it into a roll-up pin and the referee counted Owens down even though Owens clearly got his right shoulder up off of the mat.

Nevertheless, it appears as though the referee's decision will stand.
