At Sunday night's SmackDown LIVE-exclusive WWE Money in the Bank event, Baron Corbin defeated AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, and United States Champion Kevin Owens to win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which has earned him a shot at the WWE Championship anytime, anywhere he wants over the next year.

Prior to the match beginning, Corbin attacked Nakamura as Nakamura made his entrance to the ring; however, Nakamura would later return to compete in the match.
