Shane McMahon was reportedly the original opponent for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando next year, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio today.  

Top WWE officials had had big plans for his Shane against Lesnar but Vince became convinced that Goldberg would be the better opponent despite the advice of those around him. Brian Alvarez also asked Meltzer if Braun Strowman was ever in contention to face Lesnar to which Melzter said, "No, no, no, Shane McMahon was." 

Meltzer said there are a lot of politics surrounding the decision with many not happy with the finish to Goldberg vs. Lesnar at Survivor Series, again that was Vince's decision and the buck stops with him with regard to the direction and final decision.
