Ric Flair Talks About WWE's Rising Stars: Rollins, Reigns, Bray, Ziggler

WWE Hall of Famer "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair recently spoke about some of his favorite young WWE talents on his WOOOO! Nation Podcast.

On his favorite WWE guys having legit athlete backgrounds: “If you look at Bray Wyatt, I think, number one, Bray [has] got a great amateur [wrestling] background, as did his dad [Mike Rotunda], as does his brother [Bo Dallas], so he brought that to the table. I mean, a good amateur wrestler automatically, probably after watching his dad for years, he liked the [professional wrestling] business. I can tell he loves it now. And, so, Bray and Bo are just two wonderful kids. Mike Rotunda won the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Championship at 12 years of age, guys. And that’s what kind of athlete Mike Rotunda was, a two-sport All-American at Syracuse [University] at wrestling and football. I mean, I just don’t think kids like that come along every day.”

On Roman Reigns: “Roman Reigns, for as quiet and humble as that guy is, remember who his dad is [Sika Anoa’i]. Lets get serious. Roman Reigns was All-ACC at Georgia Tech. I mean, the kid can play sports.”

On Dolph Ziggler: “Dolph Ziggler is a hell of an amateur wrestler. At Kent State [University], he was an All-American. Yeah, and you can tell it. He’s not afraid of anybody out there. But I don’t know that it’s ever going to mean anything…Will he ever have an opportunity to wrestle in the main event of WrestleMania? I don’t know. I hope so because he [has] got the talent, but it just seems like one week they’re on, and one week they’re off.”

On the problem with Cesaro’s booking: “Who brings more to the table as a performer, if you look at raw ability, than Cesaro? Nobody. I mean, that kid is phenomenal. But, he’s one week on, one week off, and I think that’s part of the problem…I know how they can resolve that mic issue: dial 9-1-1-Naitch.”

On Seth Rollins: “There aren’t many kids I’ve seen in a long time, anywhere, that can wrestle like Seth Rollins. Jeez, that kid can really go. I mean, really go. Yeah, he [has] got skills like very few people are ever blessed with. He’s Randy Orton, but he can do more highflying stuff than Randy. And he’s that good.”

On wrestlers having egos: “The egos in our business in the old days were huge! And it’s really hard, now, to have that kind of ego because I think the last guy, probably, to have that kind of an ego that was able to last, two guys to get away with it would be the Rock and Shawn [Michaels]. Do you know what I mean? But they were both so damn good at what they did, they could have egos and pull it off.”
