[WNS Column] Monday Night Bore

Monday Night Bore

Hello wrestling fans! Thanks for checking out my last column on the European Championship. I had some pretty good feedback on that, especially the comment about bringing back a TV title which should be defended each week. I think with Brock Lesnar being the current champion and being part time, the absence of a champion waters down the program a bit, for me. I can see the I.C. title is obviously being used as the next best thing, and Dolph (<3) is doing well with it. So, this week I am going to discuss my thoughts on the current, and slightly stale, program that we subject ourselves to weekly and how what I would choose at Survivor Series, if I could have an hours meeting with WWE Creative.

Ok, so Hell In A Cell is up next, then Survivor Series is just around the corner, but you already knew that. This PPV that can feature classic tag team brawls, maybe a battle royal, even (dare I say it) ‘wrestling’ matches. Never has there been a better chance to open up the roster and hand some of the younger talent a bigger stage (than Raw) to get noticed. It is time to send in some fresh talent from NXT given the amount of injuries the WWE has at this time, which is resulting in the same old boring Cena/Kane/Orton garbage on Raw.

As we all know, Survivor Series is generally tag team (or more) based matches – but who wants to see “Cena teaming up with Orton” for the zillionth time? Or Sheamus teaming up with Dolph again? NOBODY, THAT’S WHO. We want to see The Ascension finally debut on Raw and kick the living daylights out of Harper and Rowan. Imagine that! They [Wyatts] will be leaving Bray to do his own thing soon enough, so why not have them get involved with the new guys and give The Ascension a platform to step up to. If The Uso’s are to stay in the title scene, have them ambush the match and get their asses kicked. Sin Cara and Kalisto (known as the Lucha Dragons) have a world of experience between them, after Sin Cara headed back to NXT to work on his in-ring abilities it seems they are both flying high (pun intended) at the moment as the current NXT Tag Team Champions! Viewers are already familiar with Cara so the addition of a slight surprise return with a ‘new guy’ would also show how much he has improved.

The US title seems to be defended around once every 6-8 months these days, is there a worse way to take away prestige of a belt? Ambrose had it for 351 days, as of writing Sheamus is on 156 days. Why not get Cesaro back into the scene? Have him beat Sheamus for the title and get Rusev and Lana out after the match wanting to “stamp out USA” altogether, maybe even talk of turning into the “Russian Championship” for super heat? Cesaro is a quality wrestler and his winning of the Andre The Giant Battle Royale at WrestleMania 30 has resulted in a big fat nothing. I’d have Cesaro v Rusev for the US title leading up to Royal Rumble and possibly carrying it into Mania 31. Both have the talent, and Rusev should “do it for Putin” at Mania for even more heat. Adding in Sami Zayn further down the line would keep the intensity alive as well.

Speaking of intensity, the Survivor Series match needs to feature an exciting team of  babyfaces, and no doubt Cena will be in one of the teams. As for Team Heel, I can’t deal with yet another Kane & Orton ‘Team Authority’ Rollins will no doubt add intensity but I’m bored of “An RKO outta nowhere!” again and again.
My prediction for the team matches are as follows; Cena, Ambrose, Sheamus, Ziggler, R-Ziggler vs Kane, Orton, Seth Rollins, Rusev, Cesaro. These predictions are based on the “Main Eventers” currently within WWE, and are not who I would like to see in the teams.

They are as follows: Team Babyface – Ambrose, Ziggler (w/R-Ziggler), Big Show, Bray Wyatt, Mark Henry vs Cesaro, Rusev, Seth Rollins, Kane, Miz (w/Mizdow). This is just my personal choice on something that would keep me entertained – No Cena, No Orton, No RKO’s, No AA’s. As for a surprise I’d love to see Sting finally debut holding the Wyatt Family sheep’s mask and set fire to it, leaving the actual confrontation until the Raw after.

Thanks for reading, let’s see how things finish at Hell In A Cell!
