As we previously reported, Vince McMahon renewed Rey Mysterio's WWE contract automatically because of the time Mysterio missed due to injury over the last two years.

WWE contracts have a clause written into them which state that they company can extend a talents contract based on the talents not performing for an extended period of time because of an injury.

This was not something that was wrote into Mysterio's contract specifically, but there is not another instance of this being used for another talent. Theoretically, WWE could apply the same principle to CM Punk's contract when it expires in July, this would mean by keeping him under contract to WWE he would not be able work for another promotion.
