Former WWE and TNA Impact Wrestling star Trevor Murdoch recently spoke to VOC Nation.
The WWE Network:Ā āI think itās a great idea.Ā The WWE Network gives the younger generation an opportunity to see what real wrestling was.Ā It also reintroduces people like Roddy Piper and Ric Flair to the younger generation.Ā I think itās a great think and Iām really glad to be a part of it.ā
The potential loss of PPV royalties to talent:Ā āFrom the fansā perspective, paying $40 less for a PPV is great.Ā From a talentās perspective, I think that (they) lose money.Ā (Talent) is in this not only because we love wrestling, but also because we need to provide for our families.Ā Once you put the PPVs on the Network, you lose the DVD sales and merchandising aspects that you had before.ā
Whether or not he was notified of his appearances on the WWE Network:Ā āI wasnāt called or notified.Ā Not even a letter.Ā I really donāt care though; Iām glad they put my stuff on there.Ā It keeps my name out there.Ā Itās great for wrestlers that arenāt with the company anymore.Ā You donāt get forgotten.ā
Whether he watches the current product:Ā āI donāt follow it closely.Ā I DVR it, watch what entertains me, and I fast forward what doesnāt.Ā What gets me fired up about the WWE is that they have such a huge pool of talented wrestlers that the whole show could be fantastic (but itās not).Ā I remember when I was a kid, I used to hang on every single thread; now it doesnāt seem like that.ā
His favorite parts of the current product:Ā āI love tag team wrestling.Ā Iām a big fan of whatās going on with the Usos, the Rhodes Brothers, and the Shield.Ā Iām also a huge fan of Cesaro.Ā Heās not your typical heel; heās a guy that you love to hate, and thatās rare.āĀ Ā
Daniel Bryan:Ā āAnyone that knows Daniel knows that heās one of the hardest working guys in the locker room.Ā Itās good to see that finally the cream rises to the top.Ā He deserved that, heās earned it, and heās the right man for the position.Ā You donāt always get what you want in life, but if you want it bad enough, you have to keep going at it.Ā Itās very parallel to real life.Ā Itās not WWEās job to give people what they want right then and there.Ā Itās WWEās job to draw people into their next TV program.Ā That what theyāve done:Ā Theyāve carried people over Monday to Monday with their storyline.āĀ Ā
CM Punkās departure:Ā Ā āItās all speculation based upon my experience with the WWE and with Punk, but the WWE has a very bad habit of not following through with storylines.Ā Thatās probably one of the reasons that Punk stepped away.Ā He knows the fans arenāt stupid.Ā He came into WWE with a fantastic following, but WWE didnāt understand it and kept him in developmental longer than they should have.Ā He kept fighting and finally got onto the main roster and proved himself to the WWE office and the (sarcastic) āfantasticā writing staff.Ā They think that whatever they put out there, they can shove down the fans throat and theyāll buy it.Ā They have a very contorted view of the wrestling business.ā
His current whereabouts:Ā āEverybody thinks that getting to the WWE is the hardest part.Ā In my opinion, staying there is the hardest part.Ā Being relevant is the hardest part.Ā Letting the office know that you can draw money is the hardest part.Ā Before I got into the wrestling business, I was working from daylight to dark, and as soon as I got released I was working from daylight to dark.Ā I wrestle on the weekends, but my wifeās family has a heavy equipment business (and I work there).Ā I see so many guys that are only a few years older than me and are walking hunched over, constantly in pain; I feel blessed that I got out relatively healthy.ā
