Miss Brooke Tessmacher On Jaw Injury/Surgery

TNA Impact Wrestling Knockout Miss Brooke Tessmacher posted the following on ImpactWrestling.com:

"For as long as I can remember, Smiles have always been important to me.  Perhaps it was because my mother has always had such a beautiful smile.  From an early age I loved how my mother’s smile could light up my day. As a child I had to go through having braces twice!  Every time they would tighten the braces to move my teeth a little more, I would be sore for days.  With all that sharp metal and poking wires on sensitive gums; it’s no wonder I became terrified of the dentist.   But, after high school my smile was virtually perfect, at least for a while.

In 2010 I broke my jaw.  The bone split down the center between my bottom two front teeth.  There was no avoiding a traumatic jaw surgery.  After that surgery my teeth still looked pretty good.  In fact most people would have said I had a nice smile.  But, things were not good behind the scenes.  After my accident and surgery, my teeth did not align as they had before.  My bite was off and this caused my upper and lower back teeth to collide and grind against each other.  In no time at all the enamel began to wear away and that exposed extremely sensitive nerves.  This made everyday life a painful trial.  Biting, chewing and even drinking anything cold became a frightening experience.   The pain was interfering with my wrestling career. I was so scared of getting it in the face that I was holding back in the ring. I didn't want to smile on TV because I was so self-conscious.   I knew that I needed to see a truly qualified dentist who could solve this problem for good.  But, my old fears were holding me back.

Finally after living with daily pain for nearly 3 years I reached a point that enough was enough.  I began to do research on who was the most qualified dental practice to handle a case like mine.  I needed a cosmetic dentist but also a dentist trained in proper bite alignment and the mechanics of how the mouth works.  (I’ve since learned this is called neuromuscular dentistry.)   One name kept coming up again and again as I asked my friends, family and contact.  That practice was Smile Texas.  When I visited their website and saw their amazing gallery of before and after photographs, I was very impressed.  Then, I read about the dentists training and how much experience they had with cases like mine.  This convinced me to get over my fear and go see them.

From my first visit at Smile Texas I had the feeling that I was in the right place.  The office feels like an elegant home rather than a cold creepy dental office.  The entire staff was so warm and welcoming that it really defused a lot of my anxiety.  During my consultation with Dr. Bret Davis there was never any discomfort.  He was so easy to talk to and took all the time I needed to answer every question.  His total confidence knowing exactly how to handle my case, put me at ease.  I knew then that I had found the right dentist for me!  I explained to Dr. Davis that I was a real dental phobic and was really dreading the procedure.  He explained that with their oral sedation options, I could basically “sleep” through the entire thing.  Of course, this was music to my ears.  They knew that I would be anxious on the day of the procedure even before coming to the office.  So, they even gave me something to help with that.

It just took two visits, about two weeks apart, for Dr. Davis to complete the reconstruction of my smile.  By building up my upper and lower back teeth, he was able to restore my bite to the correct alignment.  Then they placed all-porcelain veneers on my front teeth to give me an absolutely stunning smile.   It was so easy... I literally slept my way through the entire process!

Now, I am pain free and able to eat again without fear.   And I have a stunning smile that I get compliments on nearly every day.  I have never felt so self- confident in or out of the wrestling ring.  Needless to say, I would tell anyone who has trouble with their smile to conquer their fear and place their trust in Smile Texas.  It will change your life!"
