On Monday night's edition of WWE RAW, Triple H announced that he will be the Special Guest Referee in the WWE Championship match pitting champion John Cena against Daniel Bryan at Sunday's SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

Before the announcement, RAW General Manager Brad Maddox pleaded his case to WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon that he wanted to be the official for the match to make up for his fast-count during the Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett match earlier in the evening. Maddox stated that he would be an impartial referee, but just as McMahon was about to make it official, Triple H interrupted and announced that he, not Maddox, would be the referee for the match. Triple H then hit Maddox with the Pedigree to end the segment.
